<p>PURPOSE: Hydroxy aldehyde useful as an intermediate for preparation of caprolactone, caprolactam, adipic acid and 1,6-hexane diol is selectively prepared from an inexpensive starting material. CONSTITUTION: Pentenal having alkadiene such as butadiene or unsaturated alcohol such as cis-3-penten-1-ol, trans-3-penten-1-ol, 4-penten-1-ol, cis-2-penten-1-ol or trans-2-penten-1-ol having more than 4 carbon atom, and more than one of substituted or unsubstituted group is hydroformylated in the presence of reductive metal-liquid complex catalyst such as mono-, di-, tri- and poly-(organophosphine) liquid catalyst to give the substituted or unsubstituted hydroxy aldehyde. Thus, 1.5 ml of butadiene is reacted at 95 degree C, 250 psig for 1 hour in the presence of catalyst solution containing 0.019 g of rhodium dicarbonyl acetyl acetonate, 0.31 g of liquid F and 25 ml of tetrahydrofuran to give 75 weight % of 3-pentenal, 2 weight % of 2-pentenal, 6 weight % of 4-pentenal, 2 weight % of valeraldehyde and 5 weight % of adipaldehyde.</p> |
