PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the operability of file selection in GUI environment as to the file operation device. SOLUTION: When a file, a folder, an icon, or an icon on the desk top is selected with a file menu, a file selection screen, a folder tree menu or a browser to open a menu, data set by an environment setting means 1 and stored in a setting content storage means 2 and history data stored in a history storage means 3 are read out, added to the menu, etc., and displayed by a file menu item generating and display means 4, a file selection screen item generating and display means 5, a folder tree item generating and display means 8, and a file icon menu item generating and display means 8.
