PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To allow plural users to refer to and update data and indexes stored in a portable medium. SOLUTION: The portable database system 1 which constructs a database in a portable medium initialized by a database system and uses it is provided with a medium connecting device 10 which connects portable media 14 and 18 and a portable medium connection managing part 5 which manages the name of a portable medium connected to the device 10 and a table name as a database in a portable medium and refers to data and indexes in a table as the database in the portable medium and updates them. The part 5 grasps whether the portable medium is connected or disconnected to the device 10 by a command message from a user and also manages plural tables in the portable medium as the same table when tables in plural portable media have the same name and the configurations of the tables are the same.
