PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve contrast deterioration of spatial light modulator caused by a cone angle component of reading light. SOLUTION: A chief ray of light LC and rays of light LR, LL being right and left cone angle beam components are made incident on a polarized light selecting plane 20. The polarized light selecting plane 20 reflects only the polarized light component having only a decomposed component of s-polarized light component perpendicular to the incident plane in the conformal mapping. All the s-polarized components of each reflected light exist in a plane 34 perpendicular to both a plane on the incident side of the chief ray of light LC and the polarized light selecting plane 20. Since a hologram plane 8 and the polarized light selecting plane 20 are arranged in an approximately parallel optical relation with each other, the polarized light components exist in a plane 36 perpendicular to both of the incident plane of the chief ray LC and the hologram plane 8. Since the hologram lens 8a is perpendicular to the incident plane and the plane 36 is parallel to the hologram lens 8a, all the polarized light components existing in the plane 36 become s-polarized light components.
