<p>Isolation of an anti-oedemic material from the pressed sap of pineapple roots or from the crude protein isolated from this pressed sap, wherein the sap is treated with a protein precipitating agent. The material is dialysed to remove impurities such as low molecular wt. cpds., inorganic cpds. etc. An aq. soln. of the starting material is then passed through a column of an acid ion exchange resin. The product is isolated from the fractions which pass through the column without being absorbed. The protein can be precipitated from the eluates by one of the known methods, e.g using ammonium sulphate, sodium chloride, acetone, ethanol etc. The product has anti-oedemic activity and the method gives a convenient method of isolation in one step.</p> |
