PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an abnormality detecting device of a microwave oven for protecting the microwave oven and its method. SOLUTION: Relays RY21, RY22 supply or shut off power, a high voltage transformer HVT raises voltage by power supplied through the relays RY21, RY22, a magnetron 30 is driven by voltage stepped up with the high voltage transformer HVT to generate high frequency in cooking chamber, a voltage sensor 60 is connected across the high voltage transformer HVT and the magnetron 30 to sense voltage between both ends of the magnetron 30, and a control part 50 judges no-load which means no cooking material exists in a cooking chamber or an abnormality such as over heating in the magnetron 30 and the cooking chamber by inputting voltage at both ends of the magnetron 30 from the voltage sensor 60, and if abnormality arises the control part 50 turns off the relays to stop driving of the magnetron 30.
