PURPOSE: A Internet protocol filter is to provide the device to connect two networks with communication conservation. CONSTITUTION: The Internet protocol is a communications device designed to provide public network(14) or Internet (16) access to nodes(18) of private networks(10), and does not require the private nodes on such network to register public Internet addresses. The Internet protocol filter presents a single Internet protocol address to the Internet and uses a plurality of Internet protocol ports to solve the problem of Internet protocol address conservation. The Internet protocol initiates sessions by assigning private side Internet protocol sessions to a unique port of the Internet protocol filter's public address. The Internet protocol filter effects a translation between a source port number for the private network and a destination port number for the public network.for communication therebetween.
