[Also in Division A4] A device for carrying a child on the back comprises a rigid frame 15 with a sling for the child and triangular shaped shoulder straps 33. The frame is preferably made of aluminium alloy and the sling is light canvas. The sling has a tubular seam 18 which is sewn around the frame crossmember 19 at the front of the frame and attached by straps 25, 27 to the rear of the frame. Leg holes are provided in the sling and an outer casing 12 is provided around the sling with aligned leg holes 30. The base of the frame has feet 22 which are joined by a curved metal cross-member 13 and a fabric band 14, Fig. 7 (not shown). The shoulder straps 33 are secured to the seam 18 along the whole width of the frame and secured to each other at 40. In an alternative embodiment, Fig. 11 (not shown), the two straps are integral. Each strap has a canvas envelope (34), (35), Fig. 8 (not shown), with a padded interior. The device is stable for a child sitting or standing.</p> |
