<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the redundancy of additional information for correcting and compensating errors, while assuring the image quality of a coded image transmitted through a transmission line. SOLUTION: An image encoder 101 compresses an inputted image by a JPEG system. A frame divider 102 divides encoded data into frame units. A pixel number detector 103 detects the number of pixels in a frame. In addition, an image analyzer 104 analyzes the image in the frame. Data switching switches 106 and 111 select a desired error correcting encoder, based on the number of the pixels and the analyzed result. The selected error correcting encoder generates an error correcting code to output to the transmission line 160 with auxiliary information.</p> |
