PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To precisely perform the range finding of a wide range with a simple light source by projecting a projecting light changing with time to a subject to be measured, and decoding the reflected light from the subject to be measured according to the time change of the projecting light. SOLUTION: A projecting light 2 changing with time projected from a stroboscopic light source 1 is diffusively reflected by the surface of a subject 9 to be measured, and a reflected light 3 reaches a light receiving optical system 41. The reflected light 3 passes an intensity modulator 42 arranged on the imaging surface of the light receiving optical system 41 and reaches a light receiver 43. The intensity modulator 42 decodes the reflected light 3 with an intensity modulation based on the signal from a phase shifter 6. Namely, the reflected light 3 is decoded according to the time change of the projecting light 2. The decoded light is received by the light receiver 43, converted into an electric signal and accumulated for a fixed time. The distance information and luminance information are calculated from the decoded and accumulated signals by an unknown variable calculating processor 7 and stored in a three- dimensional image memory 8.
