PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To dispense with memory access, such as a line buffer and to reduce a circuit scale by arranging plural color filters to output an image signal and generating a luminance signal only with the horizontal interpolation of a color information signal, including the largest amount of luminance information from among plural color information signals included in the image signal. SOLUTION: An image signal 2 consists of R, G, B signals and is successively outputted from an image-pickup device 1, in accordance with the arrangement of a color filter of a primary color system. For instance, the image signals 2 are outputted from the image-pickup device 1 in the order of RGRG, etc. on the odd numbered horizontal line and in the order of BGBG, etc. on the even numbered horizontal line. The image signal 2 is divided into a G signal and the other color signals, and the G signal is outputted from a luminance signal generation circuit 3 as a luminance signal 4 as it is. R and B signals newly generate a luminance signal 4, by means of interpolation calculation of the G signal adjoining these color signals and output the signal from the luminance signal generation circuit 3.
