PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electrolyte superior in photoelectric transfer characteristic and durability by containing a specific quantity of molten salt as an electrolyte, and containing a gelatinizer with the molecular weight of a specific range. SOLUTION: A compound expressed by the formula by 50 wt.% or above is contained as an electrolyte, and a gelatinizer with the molecular weight of 1,000 or below is contained, where Z indicates an atomic group capable of forming cations of the five or six-membered aromatic ring together with nitrogen, R1 represents the alkyl group or alkenel group, and (a) is 1 or 3. The compound expressed by the formula is the liquid or low-melting point solid salt at room temperature (25 deg.C), so-called 'molten salt'. When this compound is contained as the gel electrolyte, no solvent is required or a small quantity of solvent is sufficient even if required, its boiling point is extremely high compared to that of a low-molecule solvent, and its prevents the performance deterioration of an element through volatilization. A photoelectrochemical battery having a high short-circuit current density without aging deterioration and superior in production suitability is obtained. |
