PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable a high speed response with a simple circuit by controlling driving a carriage with a pulse motor to feed excitation condition of the pulse motor back and controlling a carriage position. SOLUTION: This recorder provides a pulse motor 32 driving a pen-carriage 14, an ASIC 32 controlling action of the pulse motor 32, and a position feedback circuit 33 feeding excitation condition of the pulse motor 32 back to an ASIC 31. A position signal generated in a CPU 4 is input to the ASIC 31 to output an excitation signal to the pulse motor 32 so as to move the pen-carriage 14 to a predetermined position. Then, the ASIC 31 judges a position of the pulse motor 32 based upon the excitation condition fed back from the pulse motor 32 with the position feedback circuit 33 constituted with a mechanical photo- interrupting circuit and re-outputs an excitation signal for correction to adjust a position of the pen-carriage 14 when correction is needed. The ASIC 31 plots a measured waveform on recording paper 23 by repeating the action.
