PURPOSE: A single-phased aquous transparent liquid cosmetic composition is provided to softly clean and/or remove a make-up from the skin and/or eye rims. CONSTITUTION: The cosmetic composition comprises: at least one C1-C6 alkyl para-hydroxybenzoate; more than 90 wt.% of water based on the total weight of the composition; and less than 0.02 wt.% of at least one metabisulfite. The composition has a relative density from about 0.99 to about 1.01. The composition further comprises 95 to 99.9 wt.% of water based on the total weight of the composition. The metabisulfite is sodium metabisulfite and contained in the amount of 0.001 to 0.02 wt.% based on the total weight of the composition. The alkyl para-hydroxybenzoate is methyl para-hydroxy benzoate, and used with another at least one alkyl para-hydroxybenzoate and/or another preservative. The alkyl para-hydroxybenzoate content is in the range of 0.01 to 1 wt.% based on the total weight of the composition. The composition contains no monovalent C1-C3 alcohol. The composition further comprises at least one polyol selected from the group consisting of propylene glycol, butylene glycol, hexylene glycol, polyethylene glycol, glycerol, dipropylene glycol and mixtures thereof.
