Diosmin is prepared from hesperidin by reaction with iodine and pyridine in the absence of water and in the presence of a solid mineral base. The preparation of diosmin comprises: (1) mixing hesperidin, iodine, pyridine and a solid alkali or alkaline earth metal base, in the absence of water; (2) heating the mixture; and (3) purifying the product by elimination of pyridine and iodine residues.
