PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make the track width of a magnetic head small and to improve core efficiency and output. SOLUTION: A magnetic core 8 formed with a magnetic path for recording and reproducing magnetic signals to a storage medium is formed thin near a front gap 12 and is formed thick in portions exclusive of this front gap 12. As a result, the track width may be made small by forming the magnetic core 8 to the thickness small near the front gap 12 thereof. Magnetic reluctance is reduced by largely forming the sectional area of the g core 8, by which the core efficiency and output may be improved.
