PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make easily knowable the number of solutions and also to display a necessary number of solutions in a calculating device which is for displaying the solution of a many-valued function such as a power function. SOLUTION: In the case of performing the calculation processing of a function Xy=20.5 which should be a many-valued function, when it is inputted as 'n pow (x, y), (x, y)=-(2, 0.5)', an exponent part y (= 0.5) is converted into a fraction (1/2) and the number of solutions existing in the power function is obtained in accordance with its denominator valve '2' and is shown on a liquid crystal displaying part 16. Also, when a solution display number '2' is designated in the form of '1 pow (2, 0.5, 2)' and the equation is inputted, two solutions (1.414213462 and -1.414213562) which are obtained by calculation are shown as orthogonal coordinates representation or polar coordinates representation. Thus the number of solutions existing in the input expression of a many- valued function is not only found and displayed but also the solutions of a designated number are shown in order of a priority by designating the number of solutions desired to be known.
