The protection is provided by an inductor (9) connected in series in the distribution line. When a lightning break-over device (15) is actuated the current surge creates a back-emf in the inductor, canceling the overvoltage for sufficient time to allow fuses (6) in the protective circuit to rupture. The inductor is inside an insulating enclosure (1), with fuses on the outside.
