PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for controlling a compressor of a refrigerator for protecting the compressor by sensing and warning a starting fault of the compressor at the time of an initial driving of the compressor and a connection fault between the compressor and an inverter. SOLUTION: The method for controlling a refrigerator having a power source, an inverter and a compressor comprises a step (S30)of initially driving the compressor for a predetermined time, steps (S40, S50) of comparing a rotational speed of the compressor with a preset power limit speed and upper limit speed when the predetermined time is elapsed, a step (S140) of judging a starting fault of the compressor if the speed of the compressor is lower than the lower limit speed and cutting Off the power to be supplied to the compressor, and a step (S80) of judging occurrence of a connecting fault between the inverter and the compressor if the speed of the compressor is more than the upper limit speed and cutting OFF the power to be supplied to the compressor.
