PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To realize a method and a device for recognizing an utterance of a user by using a speech recognition and a qualifier. SOLUTION: In a method for recognizing an utterance of a user by using a device, a certain set model 13b of utterance is stored beforehand; an utterance of the user is received to execute the speech recognition; the utterance of the user is compared with the model stored beforehand; the recognition is decided based on the comparison; and the user can provide a qualifier for limiting the comparison by touching the device. And, the qualifier discriminates items in the menu structure of the device; a subset model is selected from the models stored based on the qualifier given by the user (16); the subset model discriminates subordinate items of the menu structure; and comparison is performed for deciding the recognition (15b) by comparing the utterance of the user with the subset model.
