PURPOSE: A picture displaying apparatus and method therefor is provided, which successively samples a picture signal inputted in the display picture with an X:Y height to width ratio. CONSTITUTION: The picture displaying apparatus comprises: a picture signal synthesizing circuit (5) for synthesizing one or more picture signal in one horizontal scanning period; a clock frequency control circuit for dividing a display unit into a first region with an X:Y height to width ratio and a second region with an X:(Y-Z) height to width ratio and controlling a frequency of a sampling clock signal of each picture signal; and a display control circuit for sampling each picture signal of the picture signal synthesizing circuit (5) using the clock signal of the controlled frequency and displaying the picture on the first region with the X:Y height to width ratio and the second region with an X:(Y-Z) height to width ratio. Thereby, it is possible to decrease the manufacturing cost.
