COMPOSITION AND METHOD FOR INHIBITING THE DEPOSITION OF PROTEIN ON CONTACTLENS

PURPOSE: A composition and method used as in-the-eye and/or out-of-eye inhibitors of proteinaceous deposits on hydrophilic contact lenses is provided by including moderately charged polyquaternium polymers that selectively bind to hyderophilic contact lenses to block the binding of proteinaceous materials. CONSTITUTION: The composition is a solution for hydrophilic contact lenses, which comprises 0.01wt.% to 5wt.% of at least one moderately charged polyquaternium polymer having a molecular weight of 5000 to 50000 and about 10mol% to 45mol% of net quaternary-amine-functional repeat units. The composition may be used in multipurpose cleaning solutions for contact lenses and formulated together with a solution for wetting, immersing, cleansing, conditioning and mixtures thereof. By treating a contact lens with the composition, lenses can be cleaned and used without rubbing or using an enzymatic cleaners and the like for removing proteinaceous materials.
