1,219,004. Polyamides. FARBENFABRIKEN BAYER A.G. 19 April, 1968 [9 June, 1967], No. 18629/68. Heading C3R. Polyamides such as those prepared by polymerization of lactams or by polycondensation of aminocarboxylic acids or of diamines and dicarboxylic acids are stabilized against degradation by light by incorporating therein a combination of (a) an inorganic manganese salt in such a quantity that 0À0001 to 0À01% by weight, based on the polyamide, of manganese is present, and (b) 0À0001 to 0À1% by weight, based on the polyamide, of a phosphorus compound of the formula wherein R 1 to R 6 independently represent substituted or unsubstituted alkyl, cycloalkyl, aralkyl or aryl radicals, and R 1 to R 3 may additionally represent alkoxy, cycloalkoxy, aralkoxy or aryloxy radicals, the atomic ratio of P to Mn in said combination being from 0À5 to 10: 1. The combinations of manganese compounds and phosphorus compounds may be mere mixtures or stable addition compounds of the formula wherein X represents a halogen atom and m is 1 or 2. The stabilized polyamides may be formed into filaments, fibres or foils. The stabilizers may be added to the polyamides before, during or after polymerization. An example describes ths stabilization of polycaprolactam containing titanium dioxide.
|
