Manufacturing method for piston rings

A method for the manufacture of piston rings has a mandrill (1) with a cross section corresponding to the required inner shape of the rings. The ring material is spay coated onto the mandrill to form a hollow blank, with a roller (11) to compact the layer. An outer layer (6) provides the wear resistance of the rings. The can be a molybdenum based compound. The blank is slit into rings of the required thickness. The rings are split at a notch formed by an axial ridge (10) on the mandrill.
