Agglomerates of particles which occur in fat lime, that is a lime which is easily slakeable with water, are removed by heating the lime to a temperature of 30 DEG to 150 DEG C. The heating step is preferably carried out in the presence of water vapour, and said water vapour is preferably super-heated. The heating may be carried out with hot air containing water vapour and the amount of water vapour used is preferably at most that which is necessary to slake 5% by weight of the lime and most preferably only 1% by weight. This treatment is most suitably carried out before the lime is to be used, e.g. for the manufacture of porous moulded products, or during air separation of the lime. |
