PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an appropriate image having no color mix by preventing a recording material from being transferred to an image receiving material up to a photothermal conversion layer at the time of exposure. SOLUTION: A recording material 10 comprising an underlying layer 12, a photothermal conversion layer 13 and an ink layer 14 formed sequentially on a support 11 is superposed on an image receiving layer 20 having ink receiving ability formed on a support 21 such that the surface having the ink layer 14 of the recording material 10 faces the surface having ink receiving ability of the image receiving material 20. The photothermal conversion layer 13 is then heated through exposure from the back face of the recording material 10 and an image on the ink layer 14 is transferred to the surface having ink receiving ability. In such an image recorder, the recording material 10 and the image receiving material 20 are temporarily pressed tightly before being separated by a tight press means A.
