PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a high-purity indole-3-carboxylic acid in high overall yield by oxidation of the corresponding indole-3-aldehyde while efficiently removing and recovering unreacted indole-3-aldehyde from the reaction product. SOLUTION: This method for producing the objective indole-3-carboxylic acid comprises the oxidation of the corresponding indole-3-aldehyde in an aqueous solution in the presence of silver (I) oxide and an alkali; wherein the reaction product is kept at pH 9-11 once to filter and recover unreacted indole-3- aldehyde followed by bringing the reaction product to <= pH 6 to recover the aimed indole-3-carboxylic acid. |
