PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To simplify working for connecting together the structural materials of a wooden building and shorten a time for field work by respectively forming a pair of guiding cutouts spreading on one side edge of a plurality of nearly rectangular side plates, and positioning the guiding cutouts of the respective side plates so as to be opposite to each other. SOLUTION: A structural material connecting metal fitting 2 confronts two side plates 21, 22 with each other and connects together through a connecting plate 23, left and right a pair of cutouts 21a, 22a and 21b, 22b are formed on the opposed positions of the respective side plates, and the respective end edge sides of the respective cutouts are formed with slopes. The end faces of square timbers 1, 1' as structural material are butted each other, and the side plates 21, 22 of the metal fitting 2 are inserted into a pair of deep grooves formed on the square timbers 1, 1', to engage the cutouts with a dowel pin 14. The connecting plate 23 of the metal fitting 2 is fitted in shallow grooves 11a, 11'a, and after flushing the upper faces of the square timbers 1, 1', a fastening bolt 15 is inserted into an insert hole provided on the side 13 of the square timber 1 and the bolt hole of the metal fitting 2 to fasten with a nut 17 for fixing.
