PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for manufacturing a wire electrode for wire electric discharge machining, and more specifically to provide a method for manufacturing a wire electric discharge machining electrode wire having a core material made of a steel wire, and an outer periphery made of a copper or brass layer. SOLUTION: In a manufacturing method of an electric discharge machining electrode where a line diameter is 0.3 to 0.03 mm and, in its sectional area, the ratio of a sectional area occupied by a brass occupying in an entire sectional area is 25 to 60%, and a tensile strength is 150 to 250 kg/mm2, a pipe made of a brass plate is disposed around a high carbon steel wire having a carbon component amounting to 0.7 to 0.9 wt.% to surround its periphery, then roll machining is performed by using a swaging machine and/or a roller die, a diameter is reduced until a diameter totally twice or lower than a steel wire thickness and a brass thickness is reached to provide a clad material, and by repeating the elongation and heat treatment for the clad material, an electric discharge machining electrode is realized.
