PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a lubricant having a specified formula, adhering firmly to an information recording layer such as a magnetic recording layer and reducing its coefficient of friction owing to its molecular design, and having excellent preservability because of having no unsaturated bond. SOLUTION: This lubricant is represented by the formula CnH2n+1COO (CH2)lOH [(n) is 10-18; (l) is 2-6] or the formula CmH2m+1CnH2nCOO(CH2)lOH [(m) is 1-12; (n) is an integer including 0; (m+n) is 10-22] and preferably applied for information recording mediums. The recording medium is obtained by forming a top coat layer 4 including a hydroxyl group-terminated saturated ester compound having a specified carbon chain length on a magnetic recording layer 2 as the information recording medium or a protective layer 3. |
