PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for laying a mulching sheet, which lays and sets the mulching sheet underground while folding its both sides by a device comprising simple members in a manner to improve its durability, and also provide a device therefor. SOLUTION: This method for laying a mulching sheet is to cover surface of a ridge U formed in a field with a sheet 2 sent out of a machine wherein both sides of the sheet 2 are folded and the doubled portions are laid and set underground. Covering soil U1 is laid on the folded portion 21, formed by folding the sheet 2, to set the sheet 2. This device for laying the mulching sheet comprises, e.g. a pressing rings 7a which press the sheet 2 sent out of a roll sheet 2R by rolling on the folding allowances at the both sides, folding device 7 composed of a folding/holding guide which holds and guides the folded portion 21 of the sheet 2 between the pressing rings 7a, and soil covering disk 8 which lays the folded portion 21 formed by the folding device 7 on the covering soil U1.
