PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a cast-coated paper having excellent optical properties such as white paper gloss, whiteness, printing gloss, etc., ink-setting properties, water absorption impression and a coating composition useful for producing the cast-coated paper. SOLUTION: A base paper is coated with a coating composition comprising a pigment, an adhesive and a bowl-shaped polymer particle or a polymer particle capable of forming the bowl-shaped particle during drying to produce a cast- coated paper. The used bowl-shaped polymer particle has a bowl shape obtained by cutting a part of a spherical hollow polymer particle having a void in the core by a plane. A section vertical to the cutting plane and passing the center of the spherical hollow polymer particle forms a shape obtained by cutting out a part of a double circle by a straight line. The maximum value Hmax of length H of a perpendicular line from the outside circular arc of the section to the straight line is equal to or larger than the radius of the outside circle of the double circle.
