PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the generation of a useless approach alarm at the time of releasing preceding vehicle follow-up control by providing a control means for continuing preceding vehicle follow-up control until satisfying a specified follow-up control terminating condition even when preceding vehicle follow-up control release operation is performed. SOLUTION: When preceding vehicle follow-up control is set by a control switch 3, a controller 6 controls a throttle actuator 7, a brake actuator 8 and a transmission actuator 9 so that vehicle-to-vehicle distance D becomes the target value set on the basis of own vehicle speed. In the case of no accelerator operation or brake operation of a driver when preceding vehicle follow-up control is released in the state of measured vehicle-to-vehicle distance D, controlled time alarm distance Da and noncontrolled time alarm distance Dw being in the relation of Da<D<Dw, preceding vehicle follow-up control is continued to attain D>=Dw or Vr<=0 (Vr: relative speed to a preceding vehicle). The generation of a useless alarm can therefor be prevented.
