PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing an electroluminescent phosphor material having a coating which protects the material from moisture absorption and significantly increases the life and the luminous efficacy of a lamp. SOLUTION: This method for coating phosphor particles comprises feeding an inert gas into a reactor, loading phosphor particles in the reactor, heating the reactor at a reaction temperature, feeding a coating precursor material containing carbon into the reactor during a time when the phosphor particles are sufficiently saturated with the precursor material, continuing the feed of the precursor material into the reactor, feeding an oxygen/ozone mixture gas having an ozone content of <4.4 wt.% into the reactor, and maintaining the feed of the inert gas and the feed of the oxygen/ozone mixture gas together with an additional feed of the precursor material until a time when the phosphor particles are sufficiently coated. The method produces a phosphor material having a coating containing carbon in an amount of 2,200-6,300 ppm and can provide a higher luminous lamp efficacy than 6.1 lm/W. |
