PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a supporting unit forming a support body supporting an excavated wall face of a tunnel which can be efficiently assembled in a contracted form within a skin plate of a tunnel excavator and which can firmly support the excavated wall face when it is expanded to a circular ring-shaped support body. SOLUTION: In a frame-shaped supporting unit (a) in which the section between both longitudinal end faces of the forward and rearward arcuate frame members 1, 2 is firmly fixed by endface members 3, 4 having protrusions and recessions 5, 6, the protrusions and recessions 5, 6 of mutually adjacent supporting units (a) in the circumferential direction of the tunnel are fitted so as to be mutually caught and bendably connected to each other in the inside- outside direction by bolts 8 to form a spirally folded contracted support body. The contracted support body is unfolded to connect with pressure-contact the mutual endface members 3, 4 of the oppositely facing supporting units (a) to form a circular ring-shaped support body.
