PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an alloy combining high strength with high electric conductivity, easy in casting, and free from casting cracks by specifying the relation between the total content of Fe and Ni and the content of P in a copper alloy containing Fe, Ni, P, and Zn and also specifying the weight ratio between Fe and Ni. SOLUTION: This copper alloy is provided with a composition consisting of, by weight, 0.3-1.0% of (Fe+Ni), 0.05-0.3% P, 0.1-1.0% Zn, and the balance Cu. Further, the weight of (Fe+Ni) is 3 to 10 times that of P, and the weight ratio between Fe and Ni is regulated to 0.8-1.2. If necessary, 0.01-0.3% of at least one element among Mg, Sn, and Mn is further incorporated into the copper alloy. The copper alloy has excellent strength on the level of a 42 alloy and electric conductivity as high as >=60% IACS. Owing to this composition, a phosphorus compound can effectively be formed by heat treatment. Further, high electric conductivity can be secured by limiting proportions among Fe, Ni, and P.
