NAPHTHOL RESIN, EPOXY RESIN, EPOXY RESIN COMPOSITION AND ITS CURED MATERIAL

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a naphthol resin capable of providing a cured material having excellent heat resistance, moisture resistance, etc., by reacting a reaction product between aβ-naphthol and a formaldehyde source substance with a phenol in the presence of an acid catalyst. SOLUTION: This naphthol resin is obtained by reacting (A) a reaction product (preferably aβ-naphthol monomethylol derivative) between (i) aβ-naphthol and (ii) a formaldehyde source substance with (B) a phenol in the presence of an acid catalyst. A favorable naphthol resin comprises preferably a compound of formula I ((k) is an integer of 0-2; (l) is an integer of 1-5; R1 to R4 are each H, a halogen, a 1-10C alkyl or the like) and a compound of formula II ((m) is an integer of 0-8). The phenolic resin hydroxyl group of the naphthol resin is glycidyl etherified to give an epoxy resin.
