PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a coated tool prevented from causing the breakage and separation of a coating near a ridge line where planes cross each other to maintain high performance and a long life due to a hard coating. SOLUTION: In a cutting tool having a hard material substrate including a high-speed steel, a cemented carbide and a TiCN based cermet covered with a hard and/or lubricating film, a cutting edge is formed on the substrate. Fine honing treatment is given to a ridge portion where at least two planes or curves cross each other near the cutting edge so as to hold d/2<r<25d, where r (micron) is the radius of curvature and d is the thickness of the hard coating.
