PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the heating and deformation of a metallic casing by the conduction of heat from a combustion surface in a surface combustion burner constituted on a combustion surface of a mat produced by laminating the fibers of heat resistant steel and sintering in the condition of a non-woven fabric. SOLUTION: In a surface combustion device, a surface combustion body 1 is constituted of a porous fabric type matter 2, consisting of the braided matter or the woven matter of fibers made of a heat resistant steel and having high venting property, and a porous reinforcing member 3, having a high venting property, which are contacted closely to each other, while the surface combustion body 1 is installed at the opening part 5 of the metallic easing 4 so that the reinforcing member 3 is positioned at the side of the box type metallic casing 4 and a first porous dispersing plate 6, having a porosity of half of that of the fabric matter 2 and the reinforcing member 3, is installed in the box type metallic easing 4 at the upstream side of the reinforcing member 3.
