PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a pigment compound having improved degree of polydispersion by feeding pigment, a monomer, an initiator and a chain transfer agent under a specific condition into an extruder to polymerize the monomer. SOLUTION: A pigment compound is obtained by feeding 100 wt.% mixture of (A) 40-90 wt.% pigment with (B) 60-10 wt.% monomer (or its mixture) and (C) 0.01-10 wt.% initiator (or its mixture) and (D) 0-10 wt.% chain transfer agent respectively based on the quantity of the ingredient B into an extruder to polymerize the monomer. Prior to the feeding to an extruder, the ingredient B with the ingredient C and/or the ingredient D are mixed simultaneously and then the ingredients A, B, C and/or D are feeded into the extruder continuously (if the ingredient D is present) and to (co)polymerize the ingredient B in the extruder at a higher temperature, followed by extruding a reaction product mixture. The ingredient B is pref. a compound of the formula CH=CR-COOR (R1 is H or methyl; R2 is H, a 1-12C alkyl or the like) (e.g. an acrylate).
