PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To form a wear resistant film excellent in adhesion and film strength and excellent also in resistance to crater wear and flank wear while enabling formation at a relatively low temp. SOLUTION: A film layer of 0.1-6μm thickness having a compsn. represented by the formula V(NaC1-a) (where 0<=a<=0.6) is formed on the surface of a substrate and an upper coating layer of 0.5-8μm thickness having a compsn. represented by the formula (AlbVcTi1-(b+c)) (NzC1-z) (where 0.05<=b<=0.75, 0<=c<=0.75 and 0.6<=z<=1) is further formed to obtain the objective wear resistant film consisting of at least two layers.
