PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To spray reserve injection fuel in a long distance from a wall of a main combustion chamber in intake air absorbing large quantity of heat, promote its evaporation, and obtain even reserve air-fuel mixture in the main combustion chamber without adhering to the wall of the main combustion chamber. SOLUTION: A main combustion camber 3a is communicated with a swirl combustion chamber 3b through a communication hole 3c. A fuel injection nozzle 19 is formed on the swirl combustion chamber 3b. Reserve injection 1 and main injection 2 are performed from the fuel injection nozzle 19. In such a swirl combustion tupe diesel engine, the reserve injection 1 is started within a timing of a crank angle from 45 degrees before an intake bottom dead center to 90 degrees after the intake bottom dead center. Reserve injection fuel 1a is injected to a top face 5 of a piston 4.
