<p>Brilliant and uniform decorative coatings obtained by electrolysis; good bonding qualities. Applies to metal substrates; a current is made to pass from an anode to a metal base acting as cathode through an aqueous acidic solution containing: at least one chrome compound supplying hexavalent chrome ions for the Cr coat, silico-fluoride ions and catalytic sulphate ions as well as sodium ions in a concentration not exceeding 60 g per litre of Cr solution, whilst maintaining the acidic aqueous electrolyte essentially free of potassium ions and ensuring a ratio by wt. of 1:2 to 1:1 for silico-fluoride to sulphate ions at a temp. of 32 to 49 degrees during sufficient time to obtain a brilliant chrome deposit having a thickness of at least 1 x 10-4 mm.</p> |
