FIELD: foundry. SUBSTANCE: method comprises steps of guiding metallic strip, particularly steel strip, through bottom of vessel filled with melt and after crystallizing melt onto strip the last is removed from melt. Metallic strip passes through slot-like passage, practically without touching it. In zone of passage mouth melt metal is cooled until temperature of formation of double-phase melt/crystal zone with crystal content (50-90)%. The metallic strip contacts with cooled volume of melt in zone of passage mouth. Apparatus for making thin metallic elongated products includes opening in the form of slot-like passage in bottom of vessel filled with melt. Inner wall of opening is spaced by distance (0.3-1.0)mm from metallic strip. Cooled part of passage is provided with means for measuring and controlling heat removal from metallic part of passage. Gas or water is used as cooling medium. EFFECT: elimination of mechanical damage of strip at introducing it into vessel filled with melt, prevention of non-controlled tension stresses caused by increased friction and melt draining from vessel. 12 cl, 6 dwg
