发明名称 LIQUID CRYSTAL DISPLAY DEVICE
摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To permit a display with high contrast with respect to a display device provided with both a reflective mode and a transmission mode. SOLUTION: A reflective electrode 3 is formed on a substrate 1, a counter electrode 4 is formed on a substrate 2, and a vertical alignment liquid crystal layer 5 composed of a liquid crystal material exhibiting negative dielectric anisotropy, is held between the reflective electrode 3 and the counter electrode 4. A λ/4 plate 7 is located on a surface of the substrate 2 at the rear of the side on which the counter electrode 4 is formed and a slow axis of the λ/4 plate 7 is located being inclined 45 deg. to a direction of a long axis of liquid crystal molecules under an applied voltage to the liquid crystal layer 5. Subsequently a polarizing plate 6 is located on a surface of the λ/4 plate 7 at the rear side of the substrate 2 and a transmission axis of the polarizing plate 6 is made to coincide with the direction of the long axis of liquid crystal molecules at an applied voltage to the liquid crystal layer 5.
