PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To select an information detection area intended by a user even though the line of sight is detected at a somewhat deviated position by providing an area varying means for setting a line-of-sight detection area selected by a line- of-sight detection means wider than another line-of-sight detection area based on the selected frequency of the line-of-sight detection area. SOLUTION: Focus detection areas are arranged at nearly equal pitch plural by plural crosswise as shown by figure (a) being the enlarged figure of a focusing screen. By selecting the specified focus detection area the focus detecting operation is performed in the focus detection area. Then, the line-of-sight detection area is set to be wide in accordance with the selected frequency in the past as shown by figure (b). Therefore, even when a calculated viewing point position is some what deviated from the original specified line-of-sight detection area 20b, the focus detection area 20a is selected as an area where the focus detecting operation is performed when the viewing point position is within the enlarged line-of-sight detection area 20b'. Therefore, the intended focus detection area 20a is selected even though the viewing point position is deviated from the original line-of-sight detection area 20b. |
