PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable a thin film magnetic head to cope with the making a recording density higher and to reduce the electric resistance of a coil conductor by allowing the coil conductor to be provided with plural grooves for reducing skin effect which prolong along the axial direction of the conductor. SOLUTION: In a coil conductor 25, many grooves 25a having ruggedness sectional planes which prolong along the axial direction of the conductor 25 and a direction to which a writing current is made to flow are formed in both directions of the conductor 25. The grooves 25a have the pitch of 0.05 to 0.2μm and the depth of 0.01 to 0.1μm. The surface area of the coil conductor 25 is substantially increased without changing the width and the pitch of a coil by providing many grooves 25a on the surface of the conductor 25. As a result, even when the frequency of the writing current becomes more higher, the increasing of a resistance due to skin effect can be suppressed and exothermic reaction can be reduced and power consumption can be suppressed small and, moreover, since the resistance of the coil conductor 25 is small, the designing and the producing of a head amplifier is facilitated and the simplifying of a manufacturing process is made possible.
