PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a high-reliability device employing a detector in place of a variable resistor by providing a float member, a frame member distorted by receiving the buoyancy of the float member, and a distortion detector detecting the distortion of the frame member. SOLUTION: A fuel tank 8 is provided with an opening section 10, and a frame member 12 is welded to a cover body 11. A metal sheet is bent into a U-shape to form the frame member 12, and a hole section 13 is provided on the frame member 12. A float member 14 is constituted of a nearly cylindrical float section 15 and a projection 16 provided on the upper face of the float section 15. The projection 16 of the float member 14 is inserted into the hole section 13 of the frame member 12. The frame member 12, is distorted by the buoyancy applied to the float member 14. A semiconductor distortion detector 17 is stuck to the frame member 12, and it detects the distortion of the frame member 12 and outputs liquid level data to a microcomputer. The buoyancy applied to the float member 12 is increased in response to the liquid level of liquid fuel 9, and the semiconductor distortion detector 17 outputs the detection value corresponding to the liquid level as the liquid level data.
