PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To perform accurate potential adjustment over the entire area from a highlight to a high density in pulse width modulation. SOLUTION: This image formation device is provided with a triangular wave generator 35 for generating triangular waves based on a reference clock a modulation means composed of a comparator 34 for pulse width modulating prescribed signals by the triangular waves generated in the triangular wave generator 35, a laser 43 for irradiating a photosensitive body 50 with a pulse laser beam by the pulse width modulation modulated by the modulation means and a controller 57 for forming a first reference patch on the photosensitive body 50, setting the reference light quantity of the pulse laser beam, then forming a second reference patch on the photosensitive body 50 and setting a pulse width modulation condition.
