PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a mode register circuit of a semiconductor memory for eliminating setting of a mode register at each time even in the case of frequently altering the register. SOLUTION: The mode register circuit for a semiconductor memory comprises a default setter 31 previously having a content to become a default until it arrives at an operation guaranteeing period of an initialization from when a power source is turned on to start of the operation guaranteeing period and a mode register setter 1 having a mode register 33 for selecting whether data previously stored in the setter 31 is stored as it is or set in combination of a logic level of an address at the time point. With this configuration a command of mode register setting can be automatically executed based on the data stored in the setter 1 after the initialization.
